Transition Course Successful Candidate

Aaron previously attended East Coast College, successfully achieving a Level 2 Energy Foundation and
a Level 3 Mechanical qualification.  After a short period of unemployment, Aaron enrolled on Cohort 5 Transition to Offshore Wind Course.

Following the Transition Course, Aaron was employed by Fairwind and has worked in Norway on the Siemens site. He has been up-skilled in lifts inside wind turbines, low voltage cables and general safety.

“This course changed my life 100%. It gave me the qualifications and a really good starting salary, because the company did not need to pay for my training. The on-job experience is brilliant, I’ve never worked so hard in my life and I’m learning really quickly.”

Transition Course – Cohort 5 Future Workforce

Tom commenced the Safe Working Practice in the Offshore Wind Turbine Industry Transition Course on 17.6.19 where he successfully gained the following Global Wind Offshore (GWO) Certificates:

  • Working at Heights
  • Fire Awareness
  • Manual Handling
  • Confined Spaces
  • Sea Survival
  • First Aid at Height
  • Slinger Banksman
  • CCNSG Passport
  • BTT

Tom is ready for employment  in the Offshore Wind Turbine Industry.

Before the course he was a student with East Coast College, he successfully completed a Level 3 Sub-Diploma in Maintenance Engineering and Introduction to Engineering Construction (ITEC) obtaining a Distinction.  This gave him natural progression into the Offshore Wind Skills Transition Course.

Tom is hard working, dedicated and very enthusiastic to have a life long career in the Offshore Wind Industry.

12 Week Level 2 College Course Successful Candidate

Ben was unemployed when he applied for the Level 2 College Course in Safe Working Practice in the Wind Turbine Industry and was accepted onto Cohort 2.

Following the course, Ben was employed by 3sun Group, who up-skilled him in a range of areas. Ben has now worked on Greater Gabbard Wind Farm, Links Windfarm in Grimsby and Burbo Bank Windfarm in Liverpool.

“The Diploma changed my life; I met lots of people and we all became good friends. My first time out on a Windfarm was eye opening and very exciting – I was out there in the real world putting what I had learnt into practice.  I am set for life in this career and I’m very grateful for the opportunity the Offshore Wind Skills Centre gave to me.”

Jack joins the new generation of offshore technicians

Young engineer Jack Hurren is taking his skills offshore to inspect wind turbines thanks to the qualifications he earned at the Centre.

The 20-year-old from Blundeston near Lowestoft always had an ambition to work in the energy industry.

He got a distinction in a BTEC Level 3 Engineering qualification at Lowestoft College before a two-year Foundation Degree in Operations and Maintenance Engineering at the University of Suffolk, which focused on the renewables sector.

Training helps Ricki switch careers from oil to wind power

Ricki Western loves being out at sea keeping the nation’s energy flowing.

But when he was made redundant from an oil industry jack up rig it put a question mark over his future.

Now the Offshore Wind Skills Centre has given him a new direction and career inspecting wind turbines.

He was part of a transition course helping people switch from similar industries into the offshore wind energy sector industry.
